Who are the people behind the lens?

Hi, I’m Brian Pombo. Welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I had a really interesting conversation with some folks tonight, some friends of mine, one of them in particular is looking at doing online videos similar to this. Probably not as often as I do, we do this on a daily basis.

So you’re welcome to come back again and check us out.

So we’re having this conversation about how to go about doing it. And one of the friends that we have in common, his name’s Bill, and Bill was a television producer.

For many, many years, that was this was his career did TV commercials, television programs, everything else.

And he started talking about the type of things that you’d want to do if you’re looking to do any type of video. Especially if you’re doing conversational stuff, things where people get a chance to know your and see you.

He was discussing how you a couple things.

First off, you saying and there was all these all great points. That’s why I wanted to bring him to you. There’s that things I didn’t come up with on my own.

But he came up with an just with my experience of doing this on a daily basis for nearly two years now. I can definitely corroborate what he’s saying.

And he mentioned to our friend, he said, what you need to do is put together just a handful of videos first that you don’t show anybody, and bring them to us to take a look at and watch with you.

I’ll tell you, if you can do that yourself and especially if you have any nervousness about doing any type of online video, record a bunch that you’ve never planned on anyone saying.

Then show them to a group of friends, or colleagues or what have you that can just give you give you things they notice people that are willing to be honest, that if you have a little tick or something that they can pointed out.

That if you pause in the wrong spots. or you’re trying a bit too hard, or you’re not looking at the camera, or the lighting isn’t good, all these little things are things that can be fixed really quick, right off the bat.

And you can go miles ahead if for one thing, you watch yourself, and listen to yourself, you’ll notice things that you would you didn’t notice, even though you were in the room, you were there watching it being done, you it came out of your mouth, but for some reason, when you rewatch it, you’re going to get a different feel from it.

But having other people watch it, too, is valuable. Now, none of that ever needs to be public. In fact, you can do it many, many, many times practicing until you feel comfortable with the end result before you have anything that you put out for public consumption. Right.

And that was that was a great tip from Bill. I will, I like that.

And then another thing he said that really caught me Is he talked about how there’s a point at which you can, you know, it’s very uncomfortable to look at the limbs.

There’s no reaction from the, from anybody, especially if you’re in a room alone, like I am right now, you know, there’s no reaction. And so you don’t really know whether to speed up or slow down or whether the person’s hearing you correctly or whether you need to restate something.

But there gets to be a point where you get to be more and more comfortable with talking to a lens and talking to a camera, and somebody that isn’t there to the point where you could even almost see the people on the other side of the lens.

I thought that was just an amazing comment. I never heard anything quite like that the people on the other side of the lens. So I wanted to bring it to you are you comfortable enough yet, with video?

Or you have someone on your team that is so comfortable with video that they can see the people on the other side of the lens where they feel like they’re talking to somebody, at least one person?

Do they feel like they’re talking to that person through the lens and can look at the lens like they’re making eye contact with a person?

It’s a very interesting point, isn’t it?

Something to keep in mind, especially when you’re moving forward with any type of content, especially when you’re dealing with video. But even in audio, you could say the same thing about the microphone.

About Hey, you know, I’ve got a couple audio podcasts that we put out including this one. You may be listening to this via audio podcast. Well, there’s also a video version of it. So I’m speaking to both those audiences right now.

But you got to be able to talk past the technology past the microphone and act as if not even act you have to feel as if You’re in the room with somebody else, and you’re having a conversation.

Now, it’s a one way conversation at this point. But you got to feel like there’s an actual person listening. And you’re not just putting on a show. You’re not just you know, doing a little song and dance routine.

Hopefully that makes sense you if you’d like more ideas on the including what things really around this realm of attempting to be somewhat of a celebrity in your niche, go check out my book, 9 Ways To Amazon-Proof Your Business, you get a free copy at AmazonProofBook.com.
